GREEN STAR's 2006 Electronics Recycling Event

Dates: April 28-29, 2006
  • Friday the 28th is Business Day
  • Saturday the 29th is Household Day
Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (both days)
Address: 3444 Old International Airport Road
Location: The former FedEx warehouse on the southwest corner of Jewel Lake and International Airport Road.
Fees:
  • 30¢/lb for Businesses, Government Agencies, Schools, and Other Organizations
  • $10/vehicle for Households (plus an additional $5 for every TV or monitor if you have more than three)
  • Free for Non-Profit Organizations

Green Star is are also offering scheduled pick-up service for businesses throughout the month of April. Call 278-7869 for details, prices, and scheduling.


What is Accepted?

Accepted: televisions, computer monitors, computers/laptops, keyboards, mice, modems, external drives, small scanners, printer, copy machines, cables, other computer peripherals, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, radios, phones, fax machines, camcorders, electric typewriters, microwave ovens, and most media (floppies, CDs, DVDs), telephones, cell phones, and similar products.

Not accepted: video and audio cassette tapes, smoke detectors, loose batteries, vacuum cleaners, and household electric appliances without circuit boards.

Volunteers & Volunteering

Almost all of the labor for this event is volunteer labor. Close to 325 people came out to volunteer in 2005. Green Star wishes to thank each and every one of the volunteers who helped before, during, and after the event. They are looking for volunteers for 2006. Meetings in the Anchorage Area

Alaska Linux Users Group
This group generally meets monthly.

Alaska Macromedia Users Group
Encouraging and supporting users of Macromedia products with regular meetings every fourth Tuesday.

Alaskan Apple Users Group
Join the Alaska Apple Users Group monthly on the second Wednesday at 7 pm.

Association of Information Technology Professionals
AITP meets monthly on the first Wednesday at 6 pm. A variety of speakers are featured at this dinner meeting and networking event.

Network Users Group of Anchorage
NUGA is for network professionals supporting Microsoft and Novell networks. They meet monthly on the first Wednesday at 12 pm and are currently meeting at ARC of Anchorage at 2211 ARCA Drive. Contact President Bev Moore for more info.
